Waxing Monologues

I don’t know a makeup studio around that doesn’t have to work with a lot of actors and actresses throughout the course of a day and the different hairstyles and types we have to contend with. In the latest production, the makeup department has really had its work cut out for it as we have had to provide costumes for each character as well as wax just about everyone that appears on stage.

We had some that wanted to do it themselves, but there were a few horror stories involved there and so we have stressed to everyone in the production to leave it to the care of professionals, and I have had everyone on our staff read up on the studies that have released a few of the tricks and tips that can be used to help waxing an easier process that is a bit less painless than previously.

In many instances, waxing is considered essential and while there are many places that are willing to get the job done for you, if you do it at home, it is going to require some amount of skill to ensure that it is done at a near professional level. You can save a lot of time and money in the long run if you do it home, but if you do make the decision to wax at home, you are also more prone to injuring yourself, so it takes a bit of practice and preparation in order to get the results you really want. This is why I am here, to help guide you and others through the process so that you will be waxing like a pro in no time at all. What should be done to get ready for your waxing experience?

Examine the length of your hair.

Before you start waxing, you need to allow your hair to grow to a certain length before going through the process. That is about a quarter of an inch so that it can be easily grasped and quickly removed. Note that if you begin waxing frequently, the skin will be slightly loosened and so the next time you wax, check your hair again to see that enough has grown that waxing is necessary again.

Checking Menstrual Cycle

If you are on your period, this is not the time to wax as your body is already in a bit of pain and you don’t need any excessive agony. Wait about a week or two after your last cycle to wax your body and you will be better off.

No Exfoliation

It is not the best of ideas to exfoliate before you begin waxing as this will irritate the skin and leave it more prone to allergies, pain, and burns. If you must exfoliate, do it a day or two before waxing.

No Moisturizing

Right before you wax, leave the lotions and moisturizers on the side as this will make hairs even harder to pull out. Plus, this can lead to ingrown hairs which will be even more pain.

Balance it Out

Getting the right foods throughout the day can be a difficult thing to come by, and when you are working on sets, it can be even more difficult to get all the daily vitamins and nutrients one needs in order to maintain their level of fitness. It is shocking that some people are not even aware of what a full and balanced diet entails and it is my job to ensure that everyone appearing on set is able to get through their day with enough energy. Food is one of the easiest ways to ensure that people are feeling strong and full of vigor.

A blended drink in the morning is a nice and smooth option that I always suggest to people that need to have breakfast but don’t have the time to sit down. Instead, I use a blender to make drinks that give you the same amount of proteins as a proper meal but is drinkable. People that follow diets that are well-balanced are better able to tackle the day and the following are some of the ways in which eating properly can aid your body and mind.

Kids that eat properly are able to learn more efficiently and it also prevents obesity according to many studies that have been conducted over the years. A truly balanced diet should include whole grains, five servings of vegetables and fruits a day, lean proteins like eggs and nuts and lean meats, fiber through whole grains, and enough protein and calcium.

Weight Control

By eating proper, we are able to regulate our metabolism and keep our weight at or around the same. Of course, as we age, we need calories that depend on our weight goals and our activity level. There are some foods that are able to make us feel more satiated and I always advise people on the set to drink plenty of liquids and fruit juices to get them through the day feeling as fit as possible.

Improved Energy

We need calories as they are the fuel that gets us through the day, but there are good ways to get calories and we need to have the right ones in order to feed the body’s cells for muscle and organ tissue. Plus, the better I eat, the more motivated I feel and I am able to think clearer and get more done.

Eating for Health

The better you eat, the least likely you are to fall prey to illnesses and diseases. That includes a diet that is rich in vitamins A and C, potassium, selenium, fiber, and other essential fatty acids that protect against other chronic diseases.

Decreasing Depression

If you love to eat lots of vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and premium meats, then you are also more likely to be happier and suffer from less anxiety. That means I try to keep my diet consisting of less processed foods and refined flours, and bad meats kept to a minimum.
